Resling Cams

After my first experience with reslinging Camalots, I discovered some additional refinements that can really make a difference. The original idea was to eliminate the need for a quickdraw by reslinging the cam with a single loop of spectra cord whose length can be changed quickly: long (L1) for rope clipping and short (L2) for racking or anchoring.

Blue Water 5.5mm Titan Spectra works best for reslinging. Other high tech cords are too stiff or too thick. I use about 48"-54" of cord to resling a cam. (The original 40" turned out to be a bit short for isolating a placement from rope wiggle)
For a Camalot Jr. or Metolius TCU, I use an inline clove hitch (C) to attach the spectra cord to the cam. The hope is that the clove hitch will even out the stress on the cord created by the narrow diameter of the cable. Without the clove hitch, a simple loop of BW Titan Spectra will definitely fail at about 10kN or less when attached to the cable of these cams. NOTE: I have NOT had the clove hitch pull tested (anybody spare a cam?), so there's some concern here.
A dogvine (G) knot makes the loop trim and compact. It also helps my fingers recognize what part of the loop I'm holding, and lets me adjust cam sling lengths by feel alone.
I thread the cord through a section of tubular webbing (S), form a loop to capture a biner and then thread the cord back through the webbing and into the dogvine. The dogvine pushes the webbing against the carabiner, holding it snugly in place.
Although I sometimes reuse the wide webbing from the original cam sling (it's conveniently the right color), I now prefer 1/2" tubular webbing. The narrower webbing holds its shape better.
I use a Black Diamond Neutrino biner (N) at the end of the loop. These biners are awesome. Light and strong, they are perfect for this setup.
